4 Small Changes To Improve Mindfulness

Mindfulness is essential to living a full and happy life. Being aware of yourself and the things around you in the present moment, and understanding the patterns of your own mind can help you to remain calm and reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. But unfortunately, life gets in the way sometimes and we forget to be mindful. If you find it hard to stay mindful throughout the day, try making some of these simple changes in your life.

Meditation

Meditation is the best way to take a step back and learn what it means to be mindful. But sticking to it can be tough. Meditation is a skill like any other and it takes a long time to master it. That’s why a lot of people try it for a while and then give up on it because they don’t think that it’s really working. If you feel like that, you should try keeping a meditation journal. By writing down the thoughts and feelings that you experience during your meditation sessions, you get a better idea of your progress and it’s easier to stick to. You don’t need to dedicate a lot of time to meditation, even 5 or 10 minutes a day before you go to bed is enough to make you more mindful.

Mood Rings

Understanding your own moods and emotions and being able to recognize what is causing them is a big part of mindfulness, especially if you’re the type of person that lets those feelings impact them in a big way. Wearing a mood ring (you can get a great one at mindfulsouls.com) is a good way to keep track of your emotional state. By tracking your emotions and taking note of them throughout the day, you can start to understand what is causing negative emotions and how you react to them.

Recognize Gratitude

Gratitude is more than just saying thank you when somebody does something for you. It’s the reaction that you have to the things in life that you’re thankful for. It’s easy to focus on the things that you don’t have and lose sight of all of the positives in your life, which is why it’s important to take a moment to stop and recognize gratitude. When you’re spending time with loved ones, take note of how it feels and the positive impact that they have on your life. When somebody does you a favor, recognize how it makes you feel. By recognizing that gratitude, you can shift your focus toward the positives and stop worrying so much about the negatives.

Set Your Alarm Earlier

Most of us jump out of bed and start getting ready for work when the alarm goes off and we don’t have time to wake up slowly and think about the day ahead. But if you set your alarm half an hour earlier than usual and just take the time to start the day gently, you’ll feel a lot better for it. However, it’s important that you’re taking this time to be mindful and not checking emails or social media on your phone.

Making these small changes to your daily routine can really help you to stay mindful.
